Robot is controlled entirely by lab grown rat brain cells. The team grows neurons on an electrode array, which via wireless (bluetooth) communication receives signals from the robot’s ultrasonic sensors.

Japanese researchers have taught two robots how to play musical instruments. One plays flute, the other saxophone. The robots reproduce, play sounds they hear.

According to a study published in Pediatrics, using robots for surgery is safe, but provides no better outcomes for child patients in some cases. Robotic surgery systems, such as the Da Vinci allow surgeons to more easily do less invasive surgeries, as well as reduce human error like shaking hands.

The robot is autonomous, and contains a complex sensory control system. An on-board camera identifies gates on the slope while a GPS system tracks position and velocity.

An update on the Japanese Gundam Robot in Tokyo. Video of the 60ft Gundam below shows that the robot is slightly animated with lights, steam, a moving head and sounds.

Beggar ‘Bot talks in a computerized voice, pitching to passers-by to consider helping the less fortunate. Drawing a crowd and creating a spectacle, bedazzled mall-goers take interest in the robot and after curiously watching and listening, place money in its extending hand – to which it responds, “thank you.”
